Cavatina
Cavatina, by Stanley Myers and used as the main theme in "The Deerhunter", was originally arranged by Australian guitarist John Williams for two guitars. Either in the two-guitar or the later single-guitar arrangement it is often beyond the ability of most amateurs to play – me included. So I looked at a number of arrangements which are available and decided to make my own based partly on what I had seen but rationalised to broaden its playability to a wider group.
There are five files available, all free to download. Two are the soundtracks
- the full piece (cavatina.mp3)
- the backing track (cavatina_backtrack.mp3)
while the other three files are the notation/TAB files for
- the full arrangement (cavatina_full_arrangement.pdf)
- the solo arrangement (cavatina_solo_arrangement.pdf)
- the 2nd guitar arrangement (cavatina_2nd_guitar_arrangement.pdf)
so you can take your pick as to the way you wish to play the piece.
My arrangement is by no means perfect and there are still a few chords for 2nd guitar which may seem daunting, in which case I say just "fudge it". I said "fudge it", either by reducing the number of different notes or even creating an alternative chord which "fits" the pattern. Either way I do hope you enjoy what I've done.
HAVE FUN & A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL
